Appropriation- Buffy
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was originally written by Joss Whedon as a horror film. In 1992, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was released as a modified comedy starring Kristy Swanson. Fox approached Whedon and in 1997 the first episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" aired to rave reviews, the series would continue airing until May 2003 when the finale would be shown after 7 seasons and 144 episodes.
The series stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers who was born to be the
chosen Slayer of all darkness and evil (including vampires and other demons).
Season 1 begins with Buffy moving to a new school in the fictional town of
Sunnydale which is coincidentally situated above Hellmouth- a portal to demon dimensions that attracts supernatural creatures to the area. Buffy, along with school mates and allies Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon) and British librarian and Buffy’s Watcher, Rupert Giles (Anthony Head), the self dubbed “Scooby Gang” aim to protect their town from the evils that threaten to destroy it. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” has become a cult classic that has spawned many official and unofficial works, including comics, books, magazines, role playing games and most successfully, a spin off series
named “Angel” which centres around the vampire ex-boyfriend of Buffy Summers as he opens a supernatural detective agency with the aim of “helping the helpless”.
